1. THE SERBIAN HOUSE
erected in 1895, it was designed by Vladimir Nikolić, a well-known Serbian architect. It style is academic, with
element of neorenaissance and neobaroque. This institution played an important part in the cultural life of the
Serbian population of Mitrovica
2. THE TOWN COUNCIL
It was erected in 1877 as a representative building for the Town Council of Petrovaradin, in the neoclassical style,
with elements of neobaroque. It was designated as an important cultural monument.
3. THE SERBIAN PEOPLE’S PRIMARY SCHOOLL
The School was erected in 1869 as a representative building for the Serbian clerical council. It was constructed in
a strict architectural style, with elements of neoromanticsm. Above the entrance are the board engraved with
veres of Jovan Jovanović - Zmaj, a renowed Sebian poet.
4. PUBLIC GARDEN
During the time when Srem was a military borderland of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, this space served as an
exercise ground and a Parade plaza. At the very centre is a stone fountain in the shape of a flower, designed by
Irina Nepokoichitzkaia, an architect of Russian origin. The fountain was placed immiditly upon theend of World
War Il on the spot where once stood the „imperial linden“, which had been planted in 1879 in memory of the silver
jubilee of the Austro-Hungarian royal couple Emperor Frantz Joseph and Empress Elizabeth.
